This project entails creation of DIY Canvas Gallery Wrap. One of the great ways of marketing photography studios is through hanging a canvas wrap. However, the method can be expensive to those people who keep on changing the canvas to the latest work or the available stock.

I would prefer to create a personal gallery wrap since this can save my cash through reduction of marketing costs and at the same time allowing frequent updates. To make gallery wraps in studio, simple materials are required such as canvas, stretcher bars, staple gun, staples, Pit Bull Gripper, pencil and scissors. The following procedure can be relied on by anyone to come up with a gallery canvas wrap. In the event you print your canvas to be used in a gallery wrap, it is likely that the sides will tend to wrap on the edges. Due to this, the finished canvas has white on the sides. To avoid such cases, you can enlarge your image by extending it on the borders so that these extensions are the ones to wrap. So when you are deciding on print size, you should allow for these extensions in excess of the wrap size needed.

After printing the image, it should be laid down flat with the face up so that it can be viewed. You can begin by slightly folding one corner of the canvas on the stretcher and then fixing it permanently using the staples. At this stage, you can fix some staples at the center of the canvas but corners should not be tacked. The pit pull griper can be used in this step so as to tighten the canvas before it is stapled. Then proceed to staple the other edges making the canvas is as tight as possible. By following this procedure, it is easy to make sure the whole wrap is tight enough.

Flip the canvas and then use the pit bull gripper to tighten it before stapling the middle part of the canvas. Pull and then staple every part of the edge by moving back and forth rather than straight across canvas so as to achieve uniform tightness. Fold the edges of the canvas firmly such that they are flat on the stretcher bar frame and any loose parts can be stapled. Pull the edges inwards so that the edges are clean. The extensions of the canvas can be trimmed to required size. After all the corners have been tacked, the excess canvas cut off and the canvas is uniformly tightened, then the job of making a simple canvas wrap is finished.

In cases where the budget is not constrained, I would rather purchase a professional sweep from photography stores. The advantage of professional sweeps is that they have their own stands making it easy to set up and there is no need of shooting against walls. Also, professional sweeps save the time taken in editing photos. The photo will have the right contrast and brightness adjustments since sweep which is placed between the camera and product reflects some lights from the product. Dark colors are known to absorb light. If you take photo against dark backdrops, then the image will not have the needed brightness. The sweep gets right the white balance calibration of the camera reducing the needs for photo editing. Each source of light has a particular color temperature. Human brain adjusts to different temperatures by processing the colors for us. However, digital cameras just guess object’s true color through a white element embedded in its frame. For cameras to work out this easily, the camera is adjusted to ‘Auto White Balance’ (AWB). In case you are using a Smartphone to photograph, then turn off filters.

Next you can choose the source of light you can use. The main thing which determines the quality of a photo is the source of light used when the photo was taken. Having the best camera in world is not enough, you need also to consider the choice of light to use. Both artificial and natural sources of light can be used but when this is done in-built flash of the camera should be turned off. Photographing skills of manipulating the flash are needed so that you can get the good images. The shooting area has to well-lit to an extend camera flash is not needed. Natural light is the best since it is usually uniform provided there are no shadows. Suns brightness will vary throughout the day and therefore good timing is important. The fill lights should be larger than the product.

The camera should be positioned on a stable place, so that the image taken is clear. Anything which is stable enough to hold the camera can be used. Tripod is the best tool of supporting the camera since it can be adjusted to the level of the product. Confirm whether the settings of the camera are as expected first. Depending on the color and how the room is lit, adjust camera settings so that it is capable of taking the best photos it can. Always select superfine and large options in the camera settings since your goal is to get clear and visible product images. Familiarize with your device thoroughly to master all the settings and where they work best.

Once photos are taken, the next step would be to create a template for the product images so that they can be optimized in the site. The products should be made to look great together in terms of the space they take in the canvas space. It is recommended to use a range of 1000px and 1600px in terms of template size. Online markets such as eBay and Amazon use this criterion. The image to be uploaded on the site is the ‘base image’. It is resized automatically so that it fits different templates in the e-Commerce store. The base image should be larger than the largest template so that the zoom feature of the website can function. You should not digitally enlarge your product image so that it fits on a template but you can make them smaller in size. The final step is to save the image into the website.

The use of Do-It-Yourself (DIY) can convert your website visitors into buyers. Product photos can transform your sales and conversion rates to higher level provided the display is excellent.
